Frequently Asked Questions

What are LED downlights, and where do they work best?

LED downlights are compact ceiling fittings that direct light into a room without occupying much visual space. They are used in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, offices and other interiors. Choose the lumen output, beam angle, colour temperature and spacing for the room rather than selecting by wattage alone.

What is the difference between GU10 and integrated LED downlights?

GU10 downlights take a replaceable GU10 lamp, so the colour temperature, beam and lamp can be changed later. Integrated LED downlights contain a built-in light source and matched driver. Compare serviceability, lumen output, dimming compatibility, fitting depth and warranty before choosing.

When should I choose IP65 downlights?

IP65 downlights offer stated protection against dust and water jets. They are commonly considered for bathrooms and other damp locations, but suitability still depends on the bathroom zone, fitting instructions and electrical design. An IP rating does not confirm a fire rating.

How are recessed downlights different from surface-mounted lights?

Recessed downlights sit within a ceiling cut-out, which creates a low-profile finish but requires enough void depth and clearance. A surface-mounted fitting sits below the ceiling and can suit locations with a shallow void. Check insulation, joists, fire resistance and maintenance access before installation.

Are LED downlights dimmable, and how long do they last?

Some LED downlights are dimmable and others are not. The fitting, driver and dimmer must be compatible to avoid flicker or poor performance. Product life is quoted in hours under specified conditions, but operating temperature, switching, driver quality and installation can affect the result.
